Phone companies are selling your personal data for profit

Some mobile phone service providers have started selling your personal data to the highest bidder, and not just to advertising firms. Such information could be extremely useful to third party companies looking to develop new businesses in your area.

Verizon Wireless recently changed their privacy policy to allow them to track and record location data and web browsing history. The plan is to combine it with other valuable information about their customers including age and gender, aggregate it with millions of other users’ data and sell it to anyone willing to pay for it.

How Free Games Make Money

When a game’s not working, some people quit. Others change the rules.

Three years ago, Howard Marks, best known for resurrecting the financially flailing game maker Activision (nasdaq: ATVI – news – people ) in the early 1990s, snapped up the remaining assets of bankrupt Acclaim Entertainment for $100,000. Now Acclaim is releasing games–charging players nothing to play–and aiming to be profitable within the next 12 months.

Facebook for iPad – Free Download

The long awaited Facebook for iPad has finally been released on October 10th, 2011, ahead of arrival of iPhone 4S and iOS 5. Previously, Facebook users using an iPad had to rely on Facebook for iPhone and iPod touch which is not optimized for iPad bigger screen, or access Facebook website directly via Safari.

The new Facebook app for iOS version 4.0 is a universal app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, with added support for optimized display on iPad to show high-res photos, games, chat and more. As such, the Facebook app on iPhone and iPod touch will also been upgraded and updated with new features and user interface.

iOS 5 Released for Download

The most anticipated software update for iDevices, namely iPhone, iPod touch and iPad has been released at around 10 AM PST, October 12th, 2011, a date as promised by Apple. iOS 5 brings over 200 new features and enhanced functionalities to the iOS mobile devices, including the Notification Center, iMessage, iCloud support and PC Free, and it’s the prerequisite to enjoy iCloud.

iOS 5 is now available for download and update directly through iTunes. There is no OTA (over the air) update yet. Only after upgrading to iOS 5 then the future update may be delivered via OTA.

To get the update now, connect iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iTunes via USB, and click on “Check for Updates” in the device’s information screen.

iOS 5 is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation) and iPod touch (3rd generation).

Apple Opens iCloud Ahead of iOS 5 Launch

When Apple’s iOS 5 launches, iCloud will be waiting.

iCloud.com is now open to everyone. The site provides a suite of Web apps for e-mail, contacts, calendars, document viewing and finding your iPhone. Anything you do in these apps will be synced automatically to all other iOS devices.

To access iCloud.com, you first need to set up iCloud on either an iOS 5 device or a Mac running OS X Lion. Because iOS 5 doesn’t go live until later today, Windows users and Mac users running older OS X versions will have to wait a bit longer to try the iCloud website.
